Spacefarer is a series of games all related to each other. It all began as a Role Playing Game about 30 years ago.
Trade Wars
The great interstellar wars have ended. Warring governments are a thing of the past. The corporations have formed the Stellar Federation and all is peaceful, secure and ordered in the cosmos.
Trade quotas are maintained between worlds and taxes are levied on all operations within the Stellar Federation. Powerful corporate enforcement vessels, the Peacekeepers, patrol the shipping lanes between the stars ensuring that all commerce is controlled, taxed and legal.
Some worlds find this ordered existence boring and insufficiently profitable and have gone rogue declaring independence from the Stellar Federation and forming their own governments.
Free traders and Privateers travel outward from these planets, sneaking past the powerful Peacekeeper fleets to trade illegally with corporate worlds, establish unlicensed bases, raid Federation worlds and facilities and generally do whatever they want just like it was in the good old days.
Players begin with a single planetary system. They produce Resources at their planets and bases to fund construction of ships to explore space. Exploration will allow them to discover new worlds
to mine and with whom to trade. The growing trade empire expands its control across the star map by taking control of new worlds and conquering neighbors. Trade with the Stellar Federation may be pursued to gain money to further fund expansion. Exploration can lead to the discovery of abandoned ships, new worlds, alien artifacts and deadly surprises.
Depending upon the scenario players will attempt to create the largest empire, become worth the most money or achieve specific goals.
